India’s first ‘Green Fire Station’ opens in Chennai

Chennai has inaugurated India’s first ‘Green Fire Station’, fully running on solar panels, rainwater harvesting, and bio-waste composting. The station’s rooftop solar array powers daily operations, including high-power pumps, rescue equipment, and air conditioning. Rainwater is filtered and reused, while debris from operations is composted onsite. The station also includes an AI-driven emergency alert system and electric fire trucks. Officials note that this initiative marks a sustainable move in public safety infrastructure, aiming to replicate the model across major Indian metros.
